High-end smartphones are often advertised as being luxurious and often carry a sense of status with them. But, are modern smartphones really that luxurious?

Gionee doesn’t think so and have unveiled a luxury 5.7-inch metal and leather smartphone, which packs in a whopping 7000mAh battery.

Introducing The Gionee

According to the company’s website, the battery will give you just over 31 hours of talktime, almost 26 hours of video playback, and 915 hours standby.

The M2017 isn’t just battery and nothing else though, the handset also packs quite a few high-end specs:

  • Curved Quad HD AMOLED display
  • 6GB RAM
  • 128GB or 256GB storage
  • Dual rear-facing cameras
  • Front-facing fingerprint scanner
  • 8MP front-facing camera
  • Octa-core CPU
  • Adreno 510 GPU
  • Quick Charge 3.0

The only puzzling inclusion is the use of a Snapdragon 653 processor. In a high-end smartphone, a Snapdragon 821 processor would’ve been more the norm.

While specs and raw power are certainly one of the key selling points of the Gionee M2017, it’s not the only thing that makes a handset luxurious.

Design is another key factor and on that front, the M2017 certainly delivers.

The handset has gold edges, a gold back camera plate, and all-gold software icons. Continuing the luxurious design, the M2017 also has the options of either a metal or a leather back. The M2017 also features a dual-curved display, which is similar to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

Keeping up with Apple seems to be the standard that all handset manufacturers aim for and the M2017 achieves this by being one of the few devices – along with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus – which no longer has a 3.5mm headphone jack.

At this stage, the M2017 is only available in China with no word as to whether or not the handset will be available in any other part of the world.
