CES, the Consumer Electronics show, is in full swing for 2017. As per usual, the industry showcase sets the standard for new technology we will see rolling out throughout the year. This year, TVs are yet again the staple at the Las Vegas based show. Everywhere you look at CES 2017, hardware manufacturers are creating TVs which are thinner than ever before. The question being, does thinner equal better?

Hisense 4K Laser Cast TV

Hisense 100 inch Laser TV Unlike other manufacturers, Hisense isn't entering the "my TV is thinner than your TV" battle. Instead, the company is continuing to focus on what it does best, bringing the best technology at the lowest cost. At their CES 2017 press conference, Hisense introduced their state of the art true 4K Laser Cast TV. Or, what they call "the future of home theatre". The short-throw projector is HDR compatible and features a UHD upscaler, which displays a 4K picture and measures 100 inches (254cm) diagonally. At the event, only US availability and pricing had been announced (available in the summer of 2017 for $12,999.99). Hisense mentioned that this type of technology could retail for upwards of $50 000 with other manufacturers. This yet again makes you ask yourself why you're paying so much for other TVs when you can get the same quality for a fraction of the cost. According to a blind television picture quality study, conducted by Wakefield Research, consumers recently ranked the Hisense H8’s picture quality at the same level as premium brands, like Samsung, and significantly above budget brands like Vizio. Hisense's Laser Cast TV isn't a TV in the traditional sense, it's actually a front projection system which transmits the image on an included screen via HDMI or USB. Not only does this provide a more cinematic look and feel to your series binge watching, it also gives a far cleaner aesthetic to the look and feel of your home theatre setup.   The company hasn't forgotten its ULED technology. Hisense announced that it would be bringing the award winning technology to larger screen sizes. Hisense’s ULED technology is up to three times brighter than OLED. With better dynamic range and perception of black and white. The technology enhances colour, contrast, black level, brightness, and smooth motion with a combination of advanced hardware and software.

Quantum Dot Is Here To Stay

Hisense announced their H10D 4K ULED Smart TV, which features Quantum Dot Wide Colour Gamut, Ultra HD Premium, and UHD upscaling. According to the company, the 70-inch and 75-inch flagship H10D is the largest ULED TV series in the U.S.  Hisense also introducing the H9D and H9D Plus 4K ULED Smart TV. Featuring Wide Colour Gamut, edge-lit local dimming, and UHD upscaling for the ultimate viewing experience. The H9D series features three size options (50, 55 and 65 inches) and the H9D Plus series offers four size options (50, 55, 65 and 75 inches). Both series will be available for purchase in the US in early 2017. The H8D 4K Smart TV series will be available in bigger screen sizes – 65 and 86 inches – than ever before. New sizes of the bestselling H8 series are HDR compatible and will be available for purchase in early 2017.
