Apple's MacBook range of computers have gone a long time without a significant update. In fact, the last time that the range faced any type of shake-up was in March 2015 when the 12-inch MacBook was introduced.
Other than that, the only update we've seen is the 12-inch MacBook display getting updated to a Retina display.
Apple MacBooks Currently On The Market
At this stage, the MacBook landscape is looking rather cluttered, currently there are:
- Two 12-inch MacBooks (one of which has a Retina display)
- An 11-inch MacBook
- A 13-inch MacBook Air
- A 13-inch MacBook Pro
- A 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display
- A 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display
Rumours Around New Apple MacBooks
According to Recode, Apple is planning to unveil new Macs on 27 October 2016.
There are many rumours floating around the internet regarding what the new MacBooks might look like. But, the top rumour (and one that we're hoping is true) is that the new MacBook Pro will feature a touch OLED bar. This will replace the physical keys at the top of the keyboard.
Another rumour says that Apple will be including Touch ID onto the new MacBooks as well. Something that makes sense when you consider that MacOS Sierra includes Apple Pay.
One of the more interesting rumours is that Apple might get rid of the 11-inch MackBook Air. A good move considering how similar it is to the 12-inch MacBook.
Apple also might be getting rid of the MagSafe charging port and chargers to replace it with USB-C, something they've already done on the 12-inch MacBook.
No matter what happens, Apple sorely needs to update their MacBooks to make them more competitive with current Windows offerings. For the most part, these have Intel's latest chips and have improved battery life and better screen resolutions.
