General
Samsung had long dominated the Android market and with the release of the Samsung Galaxy S5, they saw that dominance falter slightly. Having faced severe backlash for making their flagship phones with plastic bodies, everyone had hoped that the S5 would see a shift to more premium materials, unfortunately, this was not the case. Despite a disappointing design, Samsung used the S5 to a introduce fingerprint scanner and waterproofing to their Galaxy range, features that would reappear on the S7 and S7 Edge.

THE GOOD

The Galaxy S5 excels at all the important things - it came with Android 4.4 (KitKat) at launch (the OS is upgradable to Android 6.0) ; a bright, beautiful display; quad-core processor; and a great camera experience.

THE BAD

The Galaxy S5 is a minor upgrade over the Galaxy S4. The fingerprint scanner is hit-and-miss, and the heart-rate monitor is a niche feature which you'll hardly ever use.

THE VERDICT

Despite being two years old, the S5 has some specs internals and continues to hold up well against today’s mid-range smartphones.
